Happy Birthday to Me!!

We got off to a rough start this morning with Jason asking me what I wanted for my birthday (not so subtlely letting me know that he hadn't gotten me anything yet). Dylan was extremely clingy and we were running about 30 minutes late for everything. Work is hectic because we are in the middle of month end close and we are going through a change of control. I was informed last night that we are having dinner with the ILs tomorrow to celebrate my birthday. (Note I said informed we would be doing it, not asked if I would like to do it. I knew it would happen, it happens every year. One year I hope I finally get up the nerve to tell them I hate going out to eat with them for my birthday. But, not a fight I am willing to fight this year. They mean well, they just assume too much.) I know Jason will get me something great that I didn't even know that I wanted, he always does. Dylan will sing "Happy Birthday", which will be awesome. The day will eventually end well.

On a good note, I have already received birthday cards from my mom, my mammaw, my husband's grandmother, my father-in-law, and my father-in-law's girlfriend. I have been called by my mom, my dad, and my mother-in-law (who is also taking me out to dinner tomorrow - LOL!!).

Random Thoughts

  • I am starting to reach the age that I feel inside. I have always been told that I am an old soul. I really believe that. When you ask people how old they feel, they usually name an age much younger than they actually are. I am starting to feel my age. It feels good.
  • I am more emotional since I had my son. I'm not sure I like it.
  • I appreciate my parents a lot more since I had my son. I wish I saw them more and I wish I could tell them without crying.
  • I love my husband although he annoys the hell out of me a lot of the time. I can't imagine not being with him.
  • Periodically, I rework our household budget just to make sure that we could live on one salary. (We can, and we could maintain our current lifestyle, but it would be really, really hard.) It is reassuring to me that should something happen to one of us (or one of our jobs) we would be okay.
  • I am so grateful for the lives that my husband and I have built. We don't struggle and we don't really want for anything. This is success to me.
  • I can't wait to be pregnant again. I look longingly at maternity clothes and can't wait to buy some new ones. (I have actually already bought a few items. They were on sale and really cheap.) I can't wait to have another baby in the house. I hope that Dylan starts sleeping better at night before I have to deal with newborn sleep schedules, but I'm not counting on it.
  • I really think Dylan will make an awesome big brother.
  • I worry about Dylan's shyness. I had a really hard time in my childhood because of my shyness/fear of change and I don't want him to have to endure that.

Whew!! What a week(end)!!

1. Jason was sick most of last week.

2. Dylan got a cold. The poor kid can't catch a break.

3. Jason painted his mom's house this weekend. I think he had a slight case of heat exhaustion. :( He decided that the best time to paint the house was from 2:00 - 6:00 on Saturday afternoon. What makes men think that the hottest part of the day is the best time to be outside performing labor intensive work.

4. After Jason finished painting, we went to the pool. He got cooled off and started feeling better. Dylan had a blast in the pool. Hopefully, he is starting to get over his fear of the water.

5. Went out to dinner with Mindi, Scott, and Ty. Yum, Carrabba's!!

6. Rushed home on Sunday to clean house and buy groceries.

7. One of my oldest friends and his wife came over for dinner Sunday night. We really have to get together more often.

8. I signed up for a once a week aerobics class. I had to pay for it, so maybe this will motivate me to go. I really have to get in shape. I would love to lose weight, but that is secondary right now. I just don't feel healthy. That sucks.

All in all, a good, busy week(end)!!

Weekend In Review

Friday
  • Stay home with Dylan
  • Take Dylan to see Jason at school
  • Go shopping
  • Buy Dylan some fall clothes (he had almost none - I didn't spend a lot and he could still use more, but this will get us started. JCPenney was having a great sale)

Saturday

  • Jason goes to school this weekend, so it's just Dylan and me again
  • Take the car to get the radio fixed AGAIN. It had better be right this time.
  • Go shopping
  • Go grocery shopping
  • Make dinner for Jason and his classmate that spent the night (traffic and weather turned a 1 hour trip into a 2 and a half hour trip from the school to our house)

Sunday

  • Jason is in school again today
  • Dylan and I just hang out at home
  • Took a 3 hour nap, so nice!!

Back to the Doctor

So, I called Dylan's peditrician and they are upset with us that we didn't bring Dylan in for a follow-up after the ER visit. Shouldn't someone tell us to do that. I mean are we supposed to know that one doctor poking and prodding isn't good enough. UGH!!

Anyway, daycare calls and Dylan has another fever. 101.9. Please God, not again. So, I set up an emergency appointment with his peditrician and Jason goes to get Dylan. We meet at the doctor's office and get told, yet again, that it must just be a virus.

Gee, thanks for that valuable bit of info.

Ugh . . .I thought we had escaped

So, when I get pregnant with Dylan my mother-in-law informs me about some seizures that Jason and his dad had when they were babies. They each had one around the age of 18 months and then proceded to have 2 or 3 more until they turned 4 or 5. So, I did some research and asked her if they were related to some high fever or something. Yes, they were, so we figured they were probably febrile seizures.

Fast forward - Dylan has had numerous high fevers, but never a seizure. When he turned 2, I thought we had escaped without him having to go through that. NOPE!!

Tonight, he came up to me and wanted me to hold him. So, when I picked him up I thought he felt hot. Took his temp and it was 102. Gave some Tylenol and he started to drink some juice. He dropped the juice and started to seize.

He had been seizing for about 1 minute when he started to turn a little blue so we called 911 and were put ON HOLD!!! Who gets put on hold when they call 911 - crazy, I tell ya. So, anyway, the seizure lasted about 2 and a half minutes. It ended right as the 911 operator picked up. Paramedics came and tried to get his temp down to no avail. So, Dylan and I took a ride in an ambulance.

It was about 30 minutes after the seizure ended before Dylan was able to talk to us. It was so scary, we both thought some pretty horrible thoughts.

An ambulance ride, heart monitor, blood draw, and 5 hours in the emergency room later, we still don't know what caused the fever that caused the seizure. So, it must be a virus. Nothing to do, but to wait it out.

THAT SUCKS!!

Family Reunions

Well, it's that time of year again . . . family reunion time.

Once a year, on the first weekend of August, the Hayes family reunion takes place. It all began as a celebration of my great-grandfather's birthday. It has continued through his (and many of his children's) death(s). At this time of year, all of his decendants (or at least those who want to come) gather around to reconnect. As a child I really looked forward to this time. I got to hang out with lots of cousins that I never got to see except for this one time a year.

As an adult, I still look forward to it, but not in the same way. A lot of people don't make the effort to attend anymore. It's sad actually because there are so few of the "children" (my granddad and his 11 brothers and sisters) left. It seems like as the "children" pass away, there families stop coming. Not completely, but enough to notice the difference.

I can remember when I was a child that we all had name tags (in the shape of a tree, no less) with our names and also the name of the "child" that we belonged to. We always had about 200 people each year. Now, I would guess that we would struggle to reach 100, but I could be wrong.

Hopefully, the tradition won't die. My cousin seems to have taken on a lead role in the preparation for the past two years, maybe he will eventually step up and continue this after the current generation decides to step down.

It's not a tumor . . .

Well, it appears that I will just have to learn to live with a light flashing in the corner of my eye. It's not cancer or a brain tumor, thank goodness. It's not something as simple as pressure build-up from my sinus infection, dang it. It's not a precursor to a migraine or an optical migraine.

It's permanent. The integrity of part of my eye has changed and is causing some trauma to my retina. The trauma is exhibited to my by the flashes of light. It could get worse and lead to a detached retina or it could stay this way forever.

Either way, I will always have flash photography going on out of the corner of my left eye.

It's been a while

Well, it's been a while since I've been here. That happens to me a lot. I start something with really good intentions (diet, exercise, blog, you name it) and I have a really hard time with following through. I haven't always been this way. I can be pretty focused when I have to be, it just seems like priorities have changed so much over the last few years.

Well, here's a catch up entry.

Week of July 17-23
  • It's Jason last week of summer vacation and he is supposed to paint his mom's house
  • His mom heard that it was supposed to rain all week, so she sent him home
  • It didn't rain
  • We went to the lakehouse for the weekend with Mindi, Scott, Ty, Jill, Jeff, and Maggie
  • Dylan had a blast playing with Maggie

Week of July 24-30

  • It's Jason's first week back to work
  • Dylan gets sick with a throat infection and I take off work for 2 days. (It could have been worse. Daycare told me he had been exposed to Strep Throat and Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease)
  • I get sick on my first day back to work (a sinus infection I think)
  • I started seeing flashes of light out of the corner of my left eye (please let it be because of the pressure from the sinus infection and not from a retinal tear - I have an appointment with an opthamologist on Thursday. It's only been 4 or 5 years since I've had my eyes checked - LOL)
  • Jason takes Dylan to his mom's house for the weekend so I can have a break
  • We all had a good weekend
