Weekend Musings

So, we had a busy weekend.

Saturday
  • Drove across town and Dylan napped in the car
  • Spent some time with Mindi, Scott, and "baby Ty"
  • Went to a birthday party
  • Dylan did some crafts and played in the sand
  • Dylan refused to run in the sprinkler and play in the kiddie pool (in my shy guys defense, though, he was the youngest kid there by about 2 years)
  • Drove back home
  • Packed and picked up Maggie
  • Got the new Harry Potter book
  • Drove to the lakehouse

Sunday

  • Read Harry Potter
  • Dylan peed on the potty (yeah!!)
  • Dylan and I drove home (Jason won't be home until Monday)
  • Finished Harry Potter

Monday Morning

  • Dylan peed on the potty (yeah!!)
  • Drop off at daycare was hard (all Mondays are)

Dylan is doing good with his potty training, I think. I am not sure he realizes when he needs to go all of the time, but if we remember to ask him about it, he seems to be doing a good job.

On another note, I am a single parent this week. Jason is leaving to paint his mom's house and will be gone from Tuesday to Friday. She is paying him, so it will be nice that his new school clothes won't come out of our budget this year. The upside of this is maybe I can get Dylan back on a good sleep schedule. (I can never accomplish this when Jason is home, so I have 3 nights to get started with).

All in all a good weekend. Tiring, but good.

Daycare Called . . .

We have been beginning the potty training process with Dylan. We're not forcing it, but if he says he needs to potty, we take him and sit him on the potty. Whether he does anything or not is not the point.

Well today at daycare, Dylan asked to go potty and peed on the potty. They were so proud of him. They gave him a treat and threw an impromptu party.

They called Jason and he called me. Who knew a kid's bathroom breaks would be so exciting.

And it rained for 40 days . . .

It rained all weekend here!! Thanks a lot, Dennis.

We had promised Dylan that we would take him to the park on Saturday. So hoping for the best, we head to the park. We had only been there for about 5 minutes before it started raining again. So, we had to carry a screaming 2 year-old away from the park in the pouring rain.

So, Sunday morning, we wake up and decide to take him back. Can I just tell you that 9:30 on a Sunday morning is a great time to take your kids to the park?!?! We had the entire place to ourselves. The slides were wet, but that didn't slow Dylan down one bit.

There is this one slide that he is usually a little afraid of. It's about 15-20 feet tall with 3 spirals on the way down. He had been climbing and playing and having a blast. So, he finally worked up the courage to go to the top of this big slide and wouldn't you know it - there was a big puddle right where he was supposed to sit down to slide. AND there was also a huge puddle at the bottom of the slide. So, what does the little man do?? He starts splashing in the water. He plays in it so long that he drys the spot off. When he is done, he is soaked. Then, he decides it's time to slide. So, down he goes. Right into the puddle at the bottom of the slide. So now, he's wet from the top of his head to the bottom of his feet and makes it his personal mission to dry off the bottom of the slide as well. He procedes to climb back to the top and Jason convinces him to slide down head first. Ten or fifteen slides later (and just as kids were starting to arrive to play), Dylan has successfully dried most of the slides in the park. What a thoughtful little guy.

Is It Really?!?!?

My husband just called me at work.

Him: Happy Anniversary
Me: D@mn, it is, isn't it?!?!?
Him: I knew you had forgotten.
Me: I didn't forget, I remembered all week. I just didn't remember today.

Okay, how many women forget their anniversary?? Two years in a row?? After only five years?? Yeah, we both forgot last year. I didn't remember until the next morning. We suck.

In our (my) defense, though, we celebrated early both years. We went to Vegas last week and celebrated there. We have already exchanged gifts. That makes it better, right? Right?!?
